The death of a Catholic of Leonora, named John Donovan, was recorded in the Malcolm hospital. He was driven to the hospital by his brother about mid-day and nine hours later, he died. The sick man was attended to by the priest who had arrived from Laverton two hours before his demise.

Cause of Death: Haemorrhage

Alias Miss King In late 1898 Margaret Doughty was employed as a barmaid at "The Royal" hotel Malcolm, under the name Miss King. On the 2nd February 1899 she was conveyed from Mt. Stewart, 3 miles from the town, to the Malcolm Hospital but died from haemorrhage during the journey. Margaret Doughty had resided in Coolgardie for 2 years before moving to Malcolm. At the adjourned inquest, held on the following Tuesday, the jury, " ...after brief consideration returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased came to her death by abortion, brought on by the use of pennyroyal pills, and that the evidence was not sufficient to prove who was the cause of their administration."

Cause of Death: Alcoholism

Deceased had been drinking heavily for the previous fortnight and was found by the police on Sunday 18th suffering from delirium tremens. He was taken to the police station for his own safety and during the day his condition was found to be so critical that Dr. Waters was called to attend to him. Medical aid proved to be of no avail and he expired at 12 o'clock on Monday night.

Cause of Death: Died of thirst

Deceased left Bummers Creek about 8am on the Monday morning for Anaconda and was found by Police Constable Mulkerrin and a black tracker named "Mickey" on the Friday after he was reported missing the previous day. The deceased appeared to have died in his sleep under a tree. It was believed he had a brother in a good position in Sydney. Patrick Dynan was one of 254 convicts transported on the Norwood, 06 April 1867, to Western Australia. He was convicted on 29 June 1865 at Belgium at the General Courts Martial. (General Court Martial assembled at Belgaum). He was sentenced to Life. On 23 June 1884 he received a Conditional Pardon, Ticket of Leave.

Cause of Death: Crushed by a fall of earth

A miner who died in a fall of earth at the "North Star" gold mine at Malcolm. It appears that some of the ground came away suddenly, and that 2cwt of stuff fell on the man, who was dead before he could be extracted from the debris. He was described as being "a man well advanced in life". Two of his sons were engaged as engine drivers on the mines.

Cause of Death: Apoplexy

On Christmas Eve, it was reported at the police station that the dead body of a man was lying near the Star mine. A jury' was empanelled and visited the spot to view the body vhich, by papers found on it, proved to be that of a Mr. Harry Harris, an old and well-known prospector in these parts. Decomposition had already set in,and as the doctor had to be wired for and did not arrive from Leonora until the next day, the remains presented a terrible sight before the order for interment could be given. The deceased had apparently just returned from a twelve month trip to Darlot. An inquest held on 9 January 1903. The verdict of the jury was that the deceased had come to his death through apoplexy caused by the excessive heat.
