The child's parents were married in 1896 in Melbourne, Victoria. The deceased was their youngest child. Other children were Harvey Daniel born Paddington (Kanowna) 1898; Netta Margaret born Paddington 1903; John William born Boulder 1906. John Bowman was listed as a prospector at Pinjin in PO Directory 1908. John and Margaret appeared on the Electoral Roll at Pinjin in 1906. The family returned to Victoria after John enlisted in World War I.

Of Denis' 12 siblings, 9 came to WA. He had mined at Yerilla 1903, Montana 1913 and Pinjin 1908 and at time of his death.

While being lowered down the shaft, the rope snapped and Donovan fell 70 feet to the bottom and broke his neck. Death was instantaneous.

His family experienced extreme poverty leading to the death of his father, his brother, George, and the near death of another brother from influenza in 1896. His brother, Albert, was a miner at Nannine and Widgiemooltha and died in Kalgoorlie in 1947. Sydney had only married Elizabeth earlier in 1929. She had been twice widowed and had at least 5 children, all of whom lived in Boulder. The deceased had been in indifferent health for some days and evidently committed suicide whilst temporarily insane. On the advice of the Constable who attended the body, the Coroner deemed it unnecessary to hold an inquest into the death.

Isabel Thomson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and was 32 years of age when she married Jeremiah Edward O'Brien, who born in Uralla, New South Wales, and was also 32 years of age at the time they married in Menzies on 19 May 1904 (Marriage Registration 520/1904, Menzies). In 1904 at Kalgoorlie, their son, Edward Bruce, was born (Birth Registration 1481/1904, Kalgoorlie). Another son, Lincoln Jeremiah, who was born at Kookynie in 1903 (Birth Registration 1835/1903, Kookynie), had died at the age of 6 months (Death Registration 756/1903, Kookynie).

Jeremiah, Timothy and Patrick O'Brien came to Western Australia with their parents. Mary Ann (nee Casey) and Jeremiah O'Brien, who were both of Irish descent and had been living in Hillgrove, New South Wales.
