Biography

The child is buried in the Jewish portion of the cemetery, plot number 2. The child's father, known as Alec Sampson, was listed in the Western Australian Government Gazette in April 1910 as a caterer who was served with a bankruptcy notice. Alec Sampson and his wife, Sarah, were married in Perth in 1896 (Marriage Reg.No. 875/1896) and had at least three other children: Rebecca, born Perth 14 September 1897, Celia (known as Cissie) born in Perth on 4 December 1898 and Jacob Simeon born in Cue on 25 March 1904 but who died in Cue 4 November 1904. Further information reveals that by about 1911, the marriage was faltering and by 1917, Alex had deserted the family and Sarah had left Western Australia with the two girls to join her mother and brothers in Sydney. At the time of his death at the age of 76 years, the Inverell Times, New South Wales, in 1941, reported him as a chef at the Hotel Inverell "for a great many years". It goes on to mention that he was a Jewish Pole, born at Memmel, who came to Australia as a youth.
