Biography

On 25 February1896, news was reported that a man named Henry Lucas has been lost five miles south of Willadie, which is 20 miles from Bardoc, in the direction of Mount Margaret. Sub-Inspector Holmes immediately despatched Mounted Constable McDonald and a black tracker in search. On 27 February, it was reported that Constable P. C. McDonald returned from Weeladdie, to which Iocality he had been despatched the previous day in search of a man named Henry Lucas, alleged to have been lost in the bush. The officer stated that on arrival there he received information to the effect that the missing man had turned up Ninety-Mile and was then at Donkey Rocks. No newspaper reports have been found stating his death to have occurred near that time or place. However, Robert Oldfield reported to the police that he had received a letter from his brother, Edward, stating that a man known as Harry, who was in company with him, had strayed into the bush five miles south of Weeladdie, whereupon the police had sent one of their men on a camel with a native boy to look for him.
