The deceased is buried in the Church of England portion of the Ora Banda Cemetery, Section 4, Grave 13.

Employed on the Victorious Mine, Ora Banda, John Smith was burned to death in his camp whilst sleeping in a bough shed. When the fire was noticed, it was burning so fiercely that it was impossible to rescue the unfortunate man. He left a widow and three children at Boulder.
