Biography

The deceased's parents, Louisa Joyce and Henry Burgess, were married in Perth in 1848 (Marriage Registration 226/1848).  The deceased was the second of their seven children born between 1849 and 1857.  Henry's siblings were: Amelia born 1849 in Perth; Mary Ann born 1852 in Perth; James born 1855 in South Perth (Birth Registration 2824/1855); Eliza born 1856 in Perth (Birth Registration 3304/1856); Walter born 1847 in Perth  (Birth Registration 3984/1857); Caroline Elizabeth born 1859 in Perth (Birth Registration 4641/1859). 

Henry's father, Henry Burgess, died in 1859 and his will was contested in court on 2 April 1885 (newspaper article pertaining to this matter is attached).    The deceased's mother, Louisa, married Solomon Cook on 29 January 1861 (Marriage Registration 1578/1861).  A further three sons and a daughter were born to Louisa and her second husband before she died at Fremantle on 25 June 1887 (Death Registration 374/1887).
