The deceased was an old and respected identity of the East Murchison, whose health had been in decline since being kicked in the ribs by a horse. seeking relief at the hospital some six months before his death.
Wallis came from a from a very old family in the prosperous agricultural settlement of Seymour. His late father once enjoyed a high reputation in his agency
dealings. His mother had died a short time previously but the news was purposely kept from her ailing son owing to his state of health at the time. The deceased's brother held a position in the Council at Seymour.
