Deceased arrived in Australia during early manhood and was a resident of Lawlers since the early gold days. He
was engaged in mining operations during the early history of the district and in later years lived in retirement
in the township. At the time of his death, he had reached the respectable age of 93 years.
Mr Murray had been identified with the East Murchison since 1892. At 90 years of age, Mr. Murray was still remarkably active and could read and write without the use of glasses. He was probably the oldest man on the northern goldfields at that time.
Mr Murray took an active part in
the goldfields of Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. He came to the West in 1892 and after a brief stay at Southern Cross, he went to Cue and later joined the rush to Lake Carey. From there he returned to Lawlers via Darlot, where he resided till his death. The deceased was highly respected and beloved by young and old. He retained his mental faculties in a
singular manner to the end.
He is buried in Section A, Roman Catholic Section at Lawlers Cemetery.
