Biography

The Rev. Father Corcoran was suddenly called from Mt. Magnet to Sandstone to attend Patrick Ryan who was dying of bronchitis — but only reached Sandstone in time for his obsequies (funeral rites). The deceased is buried in plot number 5 of the Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery.

The deceased was brought in from Youanme on the previous day and his chance of recovery was regarded as hopeless from the outset. Ryan was one of the early Coolgardie crowd and was well-known about the Kunnanalling district. The funeral took place on Friday of the previous week, the Rev. Father Corcoran reading the burial service. Dean Drayne, of Lawlers, who received a call to attend Ryan was unable to undertake the journey, so word was sent to Rev. Father Corcoran, who was in Nannine. The reverend gentleman made an immediate start for Sandstone, but death took place before his arrival.
Death Certificate:6/1909, Black Range
