Biography

The child is buried in the Roman Catholic section of the cemetery, plot number 10, together with his mother, Ada Melvena McCARTHY, who died 16 days before. The child's father, John McCarthy, was referred to as "...the energetic secretary of the Black Range Hospital". Both parents came from Lexton, Victoria, where the deceased and his 8 siblings were born. Leonard was the 8th child in this family of 3 girls and 6 boys. They were: Mary Melvena born 1893; John Martin born 1895; Margaret Cecelia born 1897; Thomas William born 1898; Robert Ransome born 1900; Kathleen born 1902; Bartholomew Bernard born 1906, and Francis Joseph born 1908.
