Biography

Buried by Christopher William Coppin, witnessed by John E Ball. Yates arrived at the station complaining of being unwell and asked to be allowed to stay at the homestead for a few days. On the night of the fifth day of his stay, a gunshot was heard in the blacksmith's shop. Upon investigation, it was found that Yates had placed the muzzle of his gun in his mouth and fired, blowing away the top of his head. Yates was well-known in racing circles in this and other states. About 12 years before, he trained several horses for owners at Marble Bar.
