Biography

Alias Miss King In late 1898 Margaret Doughty was employed as a barmaid at "The Royal" hotel Malcolm, under the name Miss King. On the 2nd February 1899 she was conveyed from Mt. Stewart, 3 miles from the town, to the Malcolm Hospital but died from haemorrhage during the journey. Margaret Doughty had resided in Coolgardie for 2 years before moving to Malcolm. At the adjourned inquest, held on the following Tuesday, the jury, " ...after brief consideration returned a verdict to the effect that the deceased came to her death by abortion, brought on by the use of pennyroyal pills, and that the evidence was not sufficient to prove who was the cause of their administration."
