Newspapers reported: "Mr Charlie Chick, one of Cobb and Co's most popular drivers has sustained a sad bereavement in the death of his little daughter, Hester Victoria, aged 3 years and 11 months. The child appeared to be well and hearty a week previously when she began to display symptoms of typhoid fever, and was taken to the Malcolm Hospital. Her condition gradually became worse and she succumbed on Thursday morning. This is the seventh child which Mr Chick has lost, and much sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents."
