It appears that the surviving children returned to other family in Queensland on the death of their mother. At the time of his wife's death, Joseph Caddy was running the Desdemona Hotel and Mrs Caddy had been operated on for her gallstone condition. She was well known in the district for her cheery spirits and kindly disposition. It was reported that at the time of her death, that Mrs Caddy left behind not only her family of three (the girls Joy, Myrtle and Mavis) and baby Mervyn, who was born in 1910, and who was only a few months old. Mrs Caddy left an estate valued at £172 1s7d to her husband, Joseph Caddy. Joseph Caddy arrived in Queensland on 10 March 1885 as an assisted migrant on the ship "Dorunda".
