After evidence was heard from his workmates how a large stone was hanging but was unable to be dislodged, the manager of Bellevue, Arthur Taylor, gave evidence that he had seen the stone and had advised that it was to be brought down by all means. When informed of the accident, he went down and found the deceased in a sitting posture in the blacksmith's shop with two or three of the workmen around him. Arthur Taylor at once proposed to bring him up to the assay office so that he could be examined and have his wounds washed. The deceased complained of nothing else but the bottom of his back. Everything was done for him that could be done and arrangements were being made to send him into Lawlers for medical assistance - but he died before they were able to get him away.
