Roy Lionel WALKER (more)

Cause of Death:

Walker was a long time stockman who ended up head stockman at Argyle Downs Station. After retiring, he established a camp he called Roy's Retreat, alongside the spillway from Lake Argyle Dam, running many horses. He picked a place for his burial site, in a spectacular natural amphitheatre in the hills, only accessible by a narrow cleft in the rock. His wife, helped by some other women friends, buried him there and later his wife made a beautiful carved headstone to mark the spot. The installation of the headstone was filed as a program for television by the British BBC. Roy Walker worked on many stations as a stockman, drover, horse breaker, yard builder and saddler and wrote the poetry broadsheets The Fishermen of the Spillway [1987?]; Reflections of the Past [1987?]; and The Stockman (1987).
