Patrick William DONOVAN (more)

Cause of Death: From a Gun Accident

Apparently the accident occurred when Donovan was shifting camp. His rifle fell while he was up in the sulky. The bullet shot into his neck and out under his arm.. Patrick's brother, James, rode his bicycle from Yalgoo to collect his brother's possessions and kangaroo skins. He met Jenny Lind, her Feller and son Hamilet, the three natives who worked with Donovan, who were all very upset and shocked at the loss of their beloved master.

James left Mt Wittenoom Police Station by sulky for Mt Luke to erect a headstone on his brother's grave.  A few days later, he left for Yalgoo, which was then his home town.

Donovan was buried by Constable Henry McGuiness. His death was certified in writing by Police Constable Henry McGuiness (Regimental No.13) of Mt Wittenoom. His grave is marked with a marble headstone. His estate, valued at £128 16s. 2d. was bequeathed to his brother, James Donovan.
