Benjamin arrived in Fremantle to join his brother who was working at Coverdale Pastoral Company near Pingelly. Family stories also say he died of meningitis or falling from the roof of a shed! The community rallied to raise funds for his widow and family and provided her with a small cottage. She remarried in 1916 to Henry Warren and delivered one son, Charles, in 1918. Benjamin was the fourth child in a family of nine all born in Uppingham, Rutland. His siblings were: Sarah Ann born 1867; Elizabeth born 1869; Samuel George born 1871; Emily born 1875; Charles William born 1877; Alfred born 1878; Henry born 1881; Herbert born 1885. Their parents were married in 1866. Their mother, Eliza, died in 1886 and her husband in 1923.
