Biography

The child died of asthenia, which is an abnormal physical weakness or lack of energy. He suffered for three weeks prior to his death, which was certified to in writing by E.H. Martin, his father, of Davyhurst.

Richard's father, Edgar Higgs Martin, was born 22 June 1863 in Aldinga, South Australia (Birth Registration Book 29, Page 29, Willunga).  He married first on 15 May 1883 to Martha Matilda Louisa Jeans in the Residence of John Evans, Kensington, South Australia (Marriage Registration Book 135, Page 653, Norwood).  That marriage produced seven children before Martha died at Port Pirie on 26 December 1895 (Death Registration Book 232, Page 92, Clare).

In 1903, Edgar Martin married Clarissa Ann Crossland at Davyhurst, Western Australia (Marriage Registration 542/1903). A further five children were born to this marriage.  They were: Catherine born 1904 in Davyhurst (Birth Registration 1975/1904); Doris born 1i905 in Davyhurst (Birth Registration 2125/1905); Richard Evan born 1906 in Davyhurst; Lucy born 1907 in Yunndaga (Birth Registration 1900072/1907, North Coolgardie); Clara Ismay born 1909 in Gwalia (Birth Registration 4300054/1909, Mount Margaret), died 1909 in Gwalia (Death Registration 4300019/1909, Mount Margaret).  The family also lists another child, May, born and died in 1908 but no records for this child have been found.

Edgar died 1 July 1842 in Cowell, South Australia (Death Registration Book 651, Page 3368, Flinders), aged 79 years.  Clarissa died in Perth in 1962 (Death Registration 103114/1962, Perth), aged 78 years.
