Comments:There is an interesting record in Tasmania of a James Darcy, aged 21 years, a native of Tasmania, who embarked on 16 August 1888, for “Transportation” – a term used internally in Tasmania – of 1 month imprisonment for assault. On his record page, no less than 7 previous offences and sentences were listed. They were:
04.02.82: Throwing stones 1 month; 14.02.84: Throwing stones 7 days; 27.02.84: Idle and disorderly 3 months; 09.03.86: Assault 2 months; 31.05.86: Disturbing the peace 3 months; 26.11.86: Assault 14 days; 28.12.87: Larceny 4 months.
There is no conclusive evidence that this is the same James Darcy.
