Biography

It appears that Beattie was working in the underlay shaft on the 75ft. level of the mine. His mate told him the ground was dangerous and Beattie said he would put in a piece of timber. He was engaged in this when five tons of the hanging-wall fell, killing him instantaneously. His death was certified in writing by Charles Lamb, Undertake, Kookynie. He was buried by Charles Lamb. Witnesses to the burial were John Braid and George Natt.
