Mr Simpson is buried in the Church of England portion of the Cemetery, plot number 8. His father was born in Lancashire, England, his mother in Fife, Scotland. The couple married in Lancashire in 1849. Their first two children were born in Scotland before the couple emigrated to Victoria, where the next seven children were born, John Law Downie being the fifth.
