Biography

The deceased is buried in the Church of England portion of the cemetery, plot number 13. He was one of 12 children in the family with 10 boys and 2 girls born to Scottish parents. His three brothers, Thomas, Alexander, and Archdeacon Kirkland, were well known in mining circles on the Murchison. William was working a tribute on one of the Black Range Co.'s leases and, being a very hard-working man, he over-strained his heart. He left a widow, but no family.
