Biography

Samuel was born in Dorset, one of 13 children, being 5 girls and 8 boys. He left England in the 1860s and was in Kalgoorlie for a time before marrying in South Australia in 1874. There, the first of 9 girls and 3 boys were born, the last two being twins born in Victoria. Nine of those children reached adulthood. Samuel Chalker Local Prisoner No 1388, aged 20 years, Seaman charged on the 11th July 1866 for Refusing duty on board the "Belgravia" a Convict ship he received a 28 day sentence and was discharged 8 August 1866. Mrs Chalker died in 1928 in Victoria. Samuel left an estate valued at 15 shillings. The deceased is buried in lot number 16 of the Methodist portion of the cemetery.
