Biography

Mr Hepburn, a hermit, died about June 1912. He had been in ill health for 2 years. He was found dead in his camp on the property now owned by Jim Putland. He lived the life of a hermit and little was known of his history. The grave was dug in sandy soil near his camp and the body moved for burial to the grave in his hand-made wheel barrow, which was laid on the grave. The remains of this wheel barrow are still on top of the grave. A stone monument and plaque now marks his grave at "Robbie's", 750 metres from Dead Man's Swamp, as the area has since become known. He had lived in New Zealand for 40 years before coming to Western Australia.
