The deceased had spent 14 years in South Australia before moving to Western Australia. Dr O'Flaherty was the medical officer attached to the Kookynie Hospital. He passed quietly away after suffering from a bout of pneumonia in addition to an intracranial abscess, from which it was the opinion of his medical attendants, he could not recover. Born in India, Dr O'Flaherty pursued his studies in Dublin and practised his profession in Hindmarsh, South Australia, then in Norseman a few years before his death and afterwards, filled appointments at Bulong, Peak Hill, and Kookynie, where, at the time of his death, he had a considerable private practice. Although only in Kookynie for s short time, Dr O'Flaherty made himself exceedingly popular on account of his genial and courteous manner to all with whom he came in contract. He left a widow and daughter in Kookynie.
