Biography

The child's father, Charles Hennessey, arrived in the colony 28 February 1862 on the "Strathallen".  Their mother, Margaret Ormond, arrived 20 August 1866 on the "Palestine" as Margaret HARMAN.  The couple married in Toodyay (then Newcastle) on 13 October 1868.

Margaret and Charles Hennessey's other children were: Charles Edward born 24 July 1869; Daniel born 1871; Ellen born 8 July 1872; Donald born November 1874; John Lachlan born 1876, died aged 3 months in 1876 (Death Registration 9036/1876); Margaret born 1877, died aged 3 months in 1877 (Death Registration 9405/1877); James born 1878, died aged 6 months in 1878/9 (Death Registration 10078/1879); Mary Anne born 12 January 1881; Thomas born December 1881 (Birth Registration 22686/1882), died aged 1 month in January 1882 (Death Registration 11979/1883); Margaret born 1883 (Birth Registration 24422/1883), died aged 2 months in 1883 (Death Registration 12135/1883).

Apparently a small spring and dam on the property, known as "The Carroll", were used to water the vegetable garden.  Nearby was a mulberry tree where three children from this family were buried.  They were John Lachlan in 1876, Margaret in 1877, James in 1879 and another Margaret in 1883.  Charles' brother, Patrick Hennessey, also buried his young daughter, Mary, there.

Charles Hennessey was born 1837 in Ireland and died in New Norcia on 4 April 1924.  Margaret was born about 1824 in County Kerry, Ireland.  She died 6 January 1904 in Toodyay.
