Biography

Known as Ike.

Daniel ("Ike") Hall was a well known and widely respected citizen of the northern goldfields. He had been associated with Mrs. Ryan, of the Grand Hotel, Kookynie for many years and was also well known in the Yundaga and Gwalia districts.

His father, Joseph Ellis Hall, was born 29 August 1853 at Macclesfield, South Australia. He married Mary Ellen Maud Bray on 10 June 1880 in Adelaide. She was born 2 November 1861 at the Strathalbyn Mine, Strathalbyn, South Australia, Daniel Joseph arrived a few weeks later at Strathalbyn. He was followed by William Henry in 1882; Mary Priscilla Violet in 1884; James Alfred in 1886; Bessie Elizabeth in 1887; Eva Ellen in 1890; George Douglas in 1891; Albert Lloyd in 1895; Herbert Bray in 1899; Ivy Maud in 1902. All children were born at or near Strathalbyn.

Joseph Ellis died 14 January 1916 at Langhornes Creek, Strathalbyn (Death Registration 398/233, Strathalbyn). His wife died 12 October 1938 at Seacliff, South Australia (Death Registration 606/4403, Adelaide).
