Biography

Joseph Seghezzi died at Ruby Well about 27 miles from Peak Hill.  He was buried by Charles Le Feuvre, prospector, at Ruby Well in the Meekatharra district. Witnesses present at the burial were Police Constable John Reidy Trekardo (Regimental No 1211), JRS McKay and Alf Walker.

Mr Seghezzi was found dead at his camp at Ruby Mine.  He had a cousin residing at Meekatharra.  At the inquiry, it was learned that the deceased had been in ill-health for some time and had been depressed.

Charles Le Feuvre had returned to his camp for lunch and noticed a small bag of potatoes and onions on his table.  He concluded that they had been left there by Seghezzi in return for some he had borrowed the previous week, but upon opening a safe to get some meat, found three keys in the safe attached to a string.  He decided to visit the deceased to enquire  if anyone had called at his camp during his absence.  He spoke to Seghezzi as he approached but received no response and, on going nearer, discovered that he was dead on the bed outside his camp.

Le Feuvre immediately went to Mt Fraser homestead, some distance away, and communicated with the police.  As a result, Police Constable Trekardo, A Walker and J McKay, overseer of Mt Fraser Station, came to the mine.

The body was buried near the Ruby Mine.
