Biography

The little chap's parents were married in the district in 12 October 1899 (Marriage Registration 868/1899, Mt Malcolm). On 7 March 1898, having previously been trading as BOYD and REES, newspaper proprietors and publishers, at Malcolm, the partnership was dissolved by mutual consent and William Leonard Boyd carried on the business as proprietor of the Malcolm Chronicle in his own name. The Leonora Miner was originally ;published by William Leonard Boyd from 19 March 1910, based in Tower Street, Leonora. William was appointed as a Trustee of the public cemetery at Mt Malcolm in 1904. In June 1909, he was appointed a Justice of the Peace for the Mount Margaret Magisterial District. The appointment was re-confirmed by the Governor-in-Council again the following year. William and Catherina lost another son when Raymond Gregory died on 17 October 1910, at the Leonora Hospital. He was an infant aged four years when he died of Diphtheria. He is also buried in the Leonora Cemetery and his story is recorded in this website. Other children born to this couple were: Evelyn Amelda born in Malcolm in 1900, died aged three weeks; Lorna Worldon born 1902 in Malcolm; William Leonard born 1903, Malcolm; Ray born 1906; Marjorie Elwyn born 1904, Mt Margaret; Audrey Eunice born 1913, Mt Margaret; Frank Lawrence born 12 March 1920, South Fremantle. William Leonard Boyd was born 24 June 1870 at Beechworth, Victoria, and died 7 November 1942 at the Sacred Heart Hospice, Darlinghurst, New South Wales. Julia Amelda Hanley was born in 1880 and died 26 June 1964 at the Netherleigh Private Hospital in New South Wales.
