Cause of Death: Premature Birth

The child's parents were married in Kookynie in 1908 (Marriage Registration 13/1908, North Coolgardie). John Jackson Smith was born at sea in 1880. His wife was born 24 March 1883 at Benalla, Victoria. Their family of eleven children consisted of 7 girls and 4 boys, of which Jessie appears to have been the second youngest. John Jackson Smith died 2 November 1955 at Esperance. His wife died in 1975. Jessie is buried in the Salvation Army portion of the Kookynie Cemetery.

On 17 July, 1917, Mr H.C. Murray, Esq., J.P., Acting Coroner, advised that an Inquest was not deemed to be necessary. It was supposed that the cause of Mrs Spicer's death was heart trouble.

Mrs Spicer is buried in the Roman Catholic portion of the Kookynie Cemetery.

William's parents were married in Kalgoorlie in 1919 (Marriage Registration 24/1919, East Coolgardie). William Spicer senior was born in 1871 in Meredith, Victoria. His wife was born in Donald, Victoria, on 14 April 1898. The couple's other children were Clarence born 1919, Kalgoorlie; Irene Joyce born 1921, Boulder; Stanley Joseph born 31 August 1923 at Kalgoorlie (Birth Registration 169/1923, East Coolgardie); Dorothy Doreen born 1926 in Kalgoorlie (Birth Registration 116/1926, East Coolgardie).

Little William is buried in Plot 50 of the Roman Catholic portion of the Kookynie Cemetery, with his father, who died 29 May 1926 and whose story also appears in this database.

Cause of Death: Carcinoma of the Bowel

The deceased had been suffering for a year with the disease which took her life. She had spent 8 years in Victoria and 36 in South Australia before arriving in Western Australia.

Lucy's father, William Brooks, was born about 1811 in Norfolk, England. He married Lucy Barton in 1839 at Cambridge. She was born there in 1812. Their family of three girls and three boys were born between 1844 and 1856. Lucy Sarah was the eldest of the family.

William died in January 1868 in Cambridge and his wife died on 7 October 1889 in the Union Workhouse, Cambridge.

Lucy's husband, Jameson Steel, died 5 May 1909 at Moorak, South Australia. His first marriage was in 1845 to Janet Todd Scott, who bore him 12 children. She died 16 March 1864.

In 1944, Lucy's daughter, Lucy Steel, was the Secretary of the Labor Women's Organising Committee of the Australian Labor Party.

Lucy senior is buried in Plot 45 of the Anglican Portion of the Kookynie Cemetery.

The child's parents were married in Geraldton in 1897 (Marriage Registration 666/1897, Geraldton). Lennox was born 17 June 1870, his wife in 1877. Their family of 10 children consisted of 4 boys and 4 girls, of which little John Lennox was the sixth child and youngest boy,. HIs siblings were: Charles Colin born 1898, Northampton, died 1918; Leslie Graham born 1899 Northampton; Lennox Graham born 1900 in Victoria Park, died 1901; Roy Graham born 1902, Perth; Elsie Winnifred born 7 November 1904 Kookynie; Doreen Annie born 9 March 1908 at York; Mollie born 15 January 1913 in North Perth; Roma Isabel born 1 November 1919, North Perth; Marjorie Jean born 1921 Gosnells, died 29 January 1922. The children's mother died 1 December 1940 at Guildford. Her husband died 14 April 1946. Little John Lennox is buried in Plot 33 of the Anglican Portion of the Kookynie Cemetery.

The parents of these little girls were married on 18 June 1888 at the home of the bride's parents, in Tenterfield, New South Wales. The father of these children died on 5 August1942 in Perth. His wife died there on 25 May 1951.

Known as Freda.

Freda had been suffering from tuberculosis for some 12 months prior to her death. She had spent her first 8 years living in Victoria, then moved to Western Australia. At the time of her death, Freda was residing with her brother, Mr W.H. Tait. She had been living with her parents at Bayleys for the past 11 years.

Freda's other siblings were: Annie Frances born 1878; Isabella Catherine born 1879; William Henry born 1880; John Stanley born 1883; James Herbert born 1890; Isabella Catherine; John Aitken. Their parents were married on 26 December 1876 at Ballarat East, Victoria. Their father, a Scotsman, was born 23 November 1851 at Edinburgh, Midlothian. His wife was born 3 July 1856 at Ballarat, Victoria. Alice Elfreda is buried in the Presbyterian portion of the Kookynie Cemetery.

Cause of Death: Mine Accident

The deceased was accidentally killed by a skip when in motion, striking him on the head. He was leaning over the main shaft and his head was crushed by the ascending skip. A Coronial Enquiry was held at Kookynie on 25 May 1904, where the verdict returned by the jury was that he was "Accidentally killed by skip, when in motion, striking him on the head. No blame attached to anyone." He had lived in New South Wales for 16 years before arriving in Western Australia.

Cause of Death: Rheumatic Endocarditis & Granular Kidney; Heart Failure

The deceased had spent 26 years in Victoria before moving to Western Australia. He had been suffering from those health conditions for 'some years standing', according to the Death Certificate.

His mother, Elizabeth Thomas, was born 22 May 1822 at Llandygwydd, Wales. Her first marriage, in Wales was to an Evan Rees on 19 July 1847 at Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. She bore him two children before he died on 25 March 1853. In 1854, she married Thomas John Thomas and the couple had a further 6 children. Elizabeth was born 1855 in Wales before the family decided to emigrate to Australia between 1855 and 1858. Their second daughter, Mary Ann Catherine Victoria was born in Victoria 10 March 1858. Then followed David Benjamin born 1860; Margaret Jane born 1862; Moriss Daniel born 1866 and finally William James in 1867.

Elizabeth died in 1903 in Heathcote. Her husband died there in 1910. The deceased, William James, left his estate to his siblings, David Benjamin Thomas and Margaret Moore. It was valued at £216 13.
