Kennedy was born in New Zealand. Mr. Dugald Kennedy was in the act of barring out stone at the north end of the No. 3 level in the Champion mine when a fall of about six tons of earth occurred, causing his death. From the appearance of the injuries death must have been instantaneous. On 12 November the following year, a monument was unveiled which had been erected to the memory of Dugald Kennedy. The ceremony, which was under the auspices of the combined Loyal Orange Lodges of Gwalia, Leonora and Kookynie, was conducted by Sir Knight Bro. T. Pollard, W.M. of the R.B.P. King's Watch, .No. 586, Gwalia, assisted by Sir Knight Bro. W. H. Willcocks, W.M. of Lord Roberts Lodge, No. 21, Kookynie. The "Old Hundred" was sung by the assemblage at the graveside, after which Sir Knight Bro. W. Jones read the solemn ritual of the order, appointed for such occasions. He was ably assisted by Sir Knight Bro. A. Haddow. Sir Knight Bro. Haddow then unveiled the stone and in so doing bore eloquent testimony to the high respect in which their deceased brother was held by all the community. In feeling terms, he spoke of the manly and kindly actions that had endeared their late brother to all with whom he had come in contact. His hand was ever extended to help a brother or friend in distress and he had passed from this life beloved by all, leaving behind a memory that would ever be cherished by all those who had been privileged to know him.
