Cause of Death:

The child's parents were married in 1906 (Marriage Reg.No. 14/1906, Murchison). His mother was born in Victoria and his father in South Australia in 1866. The couple had just the one child. Samuel went on to Cue where he was associated with the Murchison Times newspaper in a literary capacity. He was a staunch supporter of all activities in the Murchison and at one time occupied the position of Chairman of the Cue District Road Board and Vice-Chairman of the Cue District Hospital Board. He had a love of hunting and took an active interest in the Racing Club as well as the mining activities through the Murchison. He passed away in 1934 after a short illness. The deceased child is buried in plot number 1 in the Church of England portion of the cemetery.

Cause of Death: Fell from a Cart, broken ribs

Arrived from South Australia in 1896 John McCarthy, was in charge of stock for Messrs Connolly and Green, butchers, Maninga Marley. Whilst suffering from the effects of drink, he fell from his dray and the wheel passed over his chest. Two ribs were broken, which lacerated his lungs. He succumbed after lingering in the hospital for five days. He came from South Australia and had a sister on the Eastern fields. The deceased is buried in the Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery, plot number 4.

The child is buried in the Roman Catholic section of the cemetery, plot number 10, together with his mother, Ada Melvena McCARTHY, who died 16 days before. The child's father, John McCarthy, was referred to as "...the energetic secretary of the Black Range Hospital". Both parents came from Lexton, Victoria, where the deceased and his 8 siblings were born. Leonard was the 8th child in this family of 3 girls and 6 boys. They were: Mary Melvena born 1893; John Martin born 1895; Margaret Cecelia born 1897; Thomas William born 1898; Robert Ransome born 1900; Kathleen born 1902; Bartholomew Bernard born 1906, and Francis Joseph born 1908.

This child is buried in Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery, plot number 10, along with his mother, Ada Melvina, and his brother, Leonard Lenane. who died 50 days before and his brother. Leonard Lenane, who died 34 days earlier. The child's father, John McCarthy, was referred to as "...the energetic secretary of the Black Range Hospital". Both parents came from Lexton, Victoria, where the deceased and his siblings were born. Patrick was the 9th child in this family of 3 girls and 7 boys. They were: Mary Melvena born 1893; John Martin born 1895; Margaret Cecelia born 1897; Thomas William born 1898; Robert Ransome born 1900; Kathleen born 1902; Bartholomew Bernard born 1906, Leonard Lenane born 1907 and Francis Joseph born 1908.

The child is buried in the Presbyterian section of the cemetery, plot number 10. His parents were married in Victoria in 1909 (Marriage Reg.No.6404/1909). Little John William was the youngest of three children born to that couple. The older two children were: James born 1910 and Gladys Maude born 1911, both in Victoria.

Cause of Death: Suicide with Cyanide

Alias Maurice McSHEA.

Morris' parents were married in South Australia on 21 May 1862 and proceeded to produce 5 boys and 1 girl. They were: James Patrick born 1 March 1863; John born 29 December 1868; Thomas; Michael born 26 May 1873; David born 20 November 1877; and Catharine born 16 February 1879.

John died 3 April 1911 Coolgardie and is buried in the Coolgardie Cemetery.

McShea was employed at the Oroya Palace Hotel. A mug containing cyanide had been found on a table near the bed on which the deceased was found. McShea left four letters in which he stated he was "leaving to-day forever." An inquest into his death was held the following day, in which the jury returned a verdict of suicide.

The deceased is buried in the Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery, plot number 8.

Alias Pattie. The child is buried in the Roman Catholic portion of the cemetery, plot number 15. Known as Pattie, her paternal grandmother, Margaret Moffit, died at Port Pirie, South Australia, just five days later. The child's parents were married at the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Perth on 15 August 1905 (Marriage Reg. No.1572/1905, Perth). Her siblings were: Constance Pauline born 29 June 1906 at Oroya-Brown Hill mine (Birth Reg.No.476/1906 Mt Margaret); William born 29 August 1907 at Oroya-Brown Hill mine (Birth Reg.No.593/1907, died 1933 at Mt Margaret); Sheila (or Sheelah) H born 1909 at Boulder (Birth Reg.No. 38/1909, Boulder); Kitchie (believed to have been Winefrid Margaret) born 1913 at Black Range, Birth Reg.No.27/1913 Black Range. Gilbert Moffit was the Chief Accountant at the Sons of Gwalia Mine and spoke very highly of the prospects of that mine and the gold mining industry in general. A popular banjoist throughout the goldfields, Gilbert spent 44 years on the WA goldfields, with over 40 of those employed by Messrs Bewick, Moreing & Co., as accountant on different mines under their control at Kalgoorlie, Lawlers, Sandstone, Day Dawn and finally Gwalia. Little Pattie's mother, known as Sadie, came from Westbury, Tasmania. She died at Mt Margaret 14 September 1938 (Death Reg.No.26/1938, Mt Margaret). In 1939, Sheelah (aged 27 years) became engaged to Baronet Cross, a 61 year old confirmed bachelor from Ross-shire, Scotland, who had property in Ross-shire and Dumfries-shire. The wedding was held up for a few weeks due to Miss Moffit nursing her ailing mother and the illness of Mr Cross' brother. The wedding took place in Scotland. In 1943, Gilbert retired and left to make Sydney his home. He died at his more recent home in Kew, Victoria, in December 1950.

Cause of Death: Gastric Ulcers; Haemorrhage of the Stomach

Brother Herbert Sydney Moody (Perth) The deceased arrived from England about two years ago prior to her death and had been a resident of Sandstone district for over twelve months. She was employed as housemaid at the National Hotel since early in January. When she became ill, a fortnight before her death, her removal to the hospital was necessary and all that was possible was done for her. Dr. Keenan and Matron Sutton were unremitting in their attentions but the patient gradually sank and died at about 10 o'clock on Saturday night. Her brother arrived from Bunbury by the coach a few hours before the end came. Mary's estate of £137 13/- was left to Alfred Keenan.

Cause of Death: Mine Accident - fell under a driving wheel

The deceased was found with his head smashed under the driving wheel of the air-compressor. Apparently he had been dead for an hour when the body was discovered. It appeared as if the deceased, who was in bad health, had a fainting fit and fell under the guard rail, being then dragged under the wheel. His medical adviser tried to persuade him from continuing work, advice which was supported by fellow workers on the same shift. This being so, it was surmised that while about to fill his oil can, and when in a stooping position, he fell head foremost under the fly-wheel of the compressor and in such a manner as to have his head smashed to pulp. He was a very steady man and had been on the Murchison for a number of years. He had a brother living in Denmark at the time. The deceased is buried in plot number 29 of the Church of England portion of the cemetery. He left an estate valued at £295 to his brother, William John Morgan, who was born in April 1881 at Wrington, Somerset, England. The brothers were among 2 girls and 6 boys born in the family in Somerset, five of whom came out to Western Australia. The deceased is buried in plot 27 of the Church of England portion of the cemetery. He was a former resident of Peak Hill and had been an inmate at the hospital for ten days prior to his death. At the time of his death, the deceased's mother, who was a resident of Helidon, Queensland, was advised of his condition and subsequent death.
